As might be expected of an acting prodigy, Scarlett had an unusually early interest in performing: she wanted to be an actress since age 3, and was acting professionally when she was only 8 years old. After taking classes at the Lee Strasberg Theatre Institute for Young People, Scarlett made her stage debut in the early 1990s in the off-Broadway production of Sophistry, alongside Ethan Hawke.
Scarlett Johansson's first film role came in 1994's North, starring Elijah Wood, another child star survivor. The following year she played Sean Connery's daughter in the thriller Just Cause, and then in 1996, she appeared in If Lucy Fell and Manny & Lo. For the latter film, Scarlett was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Actress in 1997. That year she added Fall and Home Alone 3 to her burgeoning list of credits.

In 1998, Scarlett's career reached new heights. Cast as Grace MacLean, a young girl who suffers a tragic equestrian accident in The Horse Whisperer, Scarlett was generally acknowledged as the most promising part of an otherwise unenthusiastically-received film. The 13-year-old actress picked up a Hollywood Reporter YoungStar Award for her work. Ironically, Scarlett was given an "introducing..." credit in The Horse Whisperer, even though she already had a half-dozen movies under her belt by then.
Building on the momentum of The Horse Whisperer, Scarlett appeared in My Brother the Pig (1999), and then co-starred with Thora Birch in Terry Zwigoff's (Crumb, Bad Santa) adaptation of the teen-angst comic book Ghost World in 2000.
The next year she turned heads once again in a provocative role in the Coen brothers' The Man Who Wasn't There. Also in 2001, Scarlett starred in An American Rhapsody, a Hungarian film about a girl who escapes from behind the iron curtain in the 1950s. Such serious fare was offset in 2002, with Scarlett's turn in the B-monster movie, Eight Legged Freaks.

But 2003 would prove to be Scarlett's most successful year yet. She starred in Sofia Coppola's Lost in Translation as a young girl staying in Japan, who befriends a washed-up American actor, played by Bill Murray. Scarlett followed Lost in Translation with Girl with a Pearl Earring, in which she played the title role; a struggling servant girl who becomes drawn into the world of Dutch painter Johannes Vermeer. Both roles landed Scarlett Best Actress Golden Globe nominations in 2004, as well as a Best Actress BAFTA Award (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) for Lost in Translation.
With the 2004 teen comedy The Perfect Score, Johansson has demonstrated once more that she can take on lighter fare as well as serious roles. But she's used to dichotomy: Scarlett divides her time between New York, where her father lives, and Los Angeles, where her mother looks after her business interests.
However impressive her successes to date, it's clear that Scarlett has a long and even more rewarding career ahead of her, with the upcoming releases of A Long Song for Bobby Long, A Good Woman and the comedy Synergy.
In July 2005, Scarlett Johansson starred with Ewan McGregor in the Michael Bay-directed The Island, making her debut as a female lead in a mainstream action film. She drew attention to both the film and herself when she proposed to appear topless in the film's sex scene, but director Bay disapproved, wanting to keep the film at a PG-13 rating. In the same year, she starred in the Woody Allen-directed drama Match Point, which opened in December. Johansson received her fourth Golden Globe nomination for Best Supporting Actress for the role but lost to Rachel Weisz. Johansson's next film, Scoop, another collaboration with Woody Allen, was released on 28 July 2006 . The same year, she appeared in director Brian De Palma's The Black Dahlia, a film noir shot in Los Angeles and Bulgaria . Johansson has noted that she was a fan of De Palma and had wanted to work with him on the film, despite her belief that she was "physically wrong" for the part. Her reviews were mixed: CNN.com positively noted that Johansson "takes to the pulpy period atmosphere as if it were oxygen", whereas another reviewer referred to Johansson as "miscast".
Johansson's most recent role is in the thriller The Prestige, which opened on October 20, 2006 . She has also completed filming on the yet be released film version of The Nanny Diaries, and has been cast opposite Natalie Portman and Eric Bana in The Other Boleyn Girl, playing Mary Boleyn, the sister of Portman's character. Filming is scheduled to begin in London in October 2006 for a 2007 release. Johansson will also play Mary, Queen of Scots, in a film scheduled to begin production by the end of summer 2007.

Now he's bringing sexy back to high definition television. Justin Timberlake and Scarlett Johansson headlined the entertainment media headlines right after JT split with former long-time love Cameron Diaz. Scarlett Johansson helped kick off Disney Park's Year of a Million Dreams celebration by portraying princess Cinderella . Celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz shot this on the steps of the Soldiers and Sailors Memorial on New York's Riverside Drive with Disney World's Cinderella castle digitally imposed behind her.
Says Scarlett : “It wasn't hard to coax my foot into the iconic glass slipper; it's every little girl's dream, mine included.”
Says Leibovitz : “ Scarlett Johansson couldn't wait to put on that tiara.” (The Harry Winston 62-karat creation is valued at $325,000. The glass slipper was made for the shoot by Steuben.)

Sexy actress Scarlett Johansson is being lined up to play porn sensation Jenna Jameson in a movie of her life story.
Adult movie legend Jenna handpicked Scarlett Johansson as her personal choice for the lead in a film adaptation of her book, 'How to Make Love Like a Porn Star: A Cautionary Tale'.
Jenna is currently in talks with producers and hopes filming will begin next year.
The X-rated actress told Britain's FHM magazine: "We're looking hopefully at Scarlett Johansson. She's my choice. I think she's beautiful."
Scarlett has already vowed to strip off for the cameras if the right role comes along, saying last year: "I'm not opposed to doing nudity - it would just have to be the right project."
There's certainly been plenty of nudity in Jenna's life - the racy star has appeared in around 100 porn films and is one of the highest paid adult actors in the world.
